Film in cui, per primo, compare la concezione del montaggio moderno (anche se parole come moderno all’interno di una storia del cinema che ha poco più di 100 d’anni di vita sono abbastanza volatili). Poi purtroppo è figlio del suo tempo e ha come “eroi” alcuni componenti del Ku-Klux-Klan che salvano pallide donzelle dalle grinfie di vari afro-americani malvagi (in realtà bianchi pitturati grottescamente di nero). D.W. Griffith (il regista, ovviamente padre del cinema americano e anche un po’ mio padre…cit.) si pentì di questa visione e per fare ammenda diresse il film Intolerance che deprecava ogni tipo di pregiudizio.
